  Almutahar was established in 1907 in Ethiopia and Eritrea. Almutahar then moved to Yemen in 1962. The first established firm was Al Mutahar Motor and Engineering Company (AMECO). AMECO mainly dealt in contracting, and participating in governmental tenders.Ycon then emerged to handle constructions. Ycon constructed the civil work for most of Yemen's power stations.

In 1986 Al Muthar started to be involved in the oil sector and formed Bin Al Mutahar Oil & Gas.
